MeditationKAFKA Franz

vyd. Vitalis, brož., jako nová

Kafka’s Meditation is a collection of 18 short stories, some only a paragraph long; a collection of assorted reflections, if you will. It is what it says it is ; it’s a collection of meditations, a bouquet of thoughts, most of which are random, but all are lucid and in most parts abstract. Kafka writes with his customary disregard for conformity, devoid of witticisms or clichés. The painful realism in his prose makes the angst palpable in every syllable. The author documents his impression of things around him and his place amongst all things. His observations are laid bare, not asking to be understood. Reading it is like watching life go by through a lens that does not judge, only holds up an image. Sometimes, these images are surreal and the imagination boggles. Sometimes they are so harshly real that the struggle is palpable. No one can read this book and still feel the same way about literature, for better or for worse. An analysis of this book is difficult. It is in a genre by itself. Compared to Metamorphosis or Investigations of a Dog , it is light reading. However, there is the over arching theme of struggle with existence. The poignancy, of lives unravelling and touching one another, remains. Readers of this book are free to make what they will of it, if they hold Franz Kafka in any regard. For me it was an eye opener. Meditation changed the way I perceived life and its vagaries and I have found myself going back to it time and time again.
